Also, on the list should be the J's Hallamrk (my store) in Lawton, OK.

The Tulsa store listed above, the Lawton store and one other of J's Hallmarks that I can't remember the location for, are closing the end of February.

In another group it was stated that the Myrtle Beach store is just relocating. I understand that. The mall it was in was in final death throes at the time of the signings in 2018.

With all of the closings, Austin TX is getting a new Hallmark store. Trudy's will be opening another store outside of the Lakeline mall sometime in April. It will be located two doors down where a corporate Hallmark used to be. I am very happy because this is much closer to where I live (~10 miles).

Congratulations, Angela! I think this is the first I've seen anything about new stores opening up. Everything else has been closings.

This is always good to hear! Most of the Hallmark stores in my area have closed which makes me so sad. People's shopping habits have changed drastically. Most of the people I know buy everything online. It's no wonder that retail stores are suffering. The closest store near me is now 15 miles away :-/ I just hope it doesn't close too.

I'm still wishing for a new Hallmark for Toms River, NJ. We used to have several, now I have a 45 minute ride. I love the Hallmark we shop at, but don't get there very often. Maybe 4 to 5 times a year.

The 45 minute drive is the closest it's ever been for me. I probably made more than the 4 or 5 times a year though since there are other things that we don't have here and also, my sister lives another 30 minutes on the other side of the Hallmark store. Now, my closest one will be more like 90 miles away. I'll probably just order on-line from one of the on-line club sponsors or our previous store manager who is now in Colorado. Sure do like to see the ornaments first. frown

A Hallmark near me closed the Monday after Mother’s Day last year (2019). Then in July 2019, a new Hallmark opened up in the exact same storefront! YAY! But the whole thing was a bit weird. No advertising sent to former customers. I didn’t even know they had opened (and I tend to be plugged in to what’s happening in my town....)

I had split my 2019 wish list between the final two remaining Hallmarks in the Birmingham area, and when I was at one of the stores picking up my order, the manager told me that a new store had opened. So even though I had purchased everything I wanted, I hightailed it across town to buy a few things—just to support the new store.

It was so funny! The store didn’t have a sign yet. All they had in stock in the whole store was the July premier release ornaments. (Grin!) The clerk I spoke with said they had not planned to open that soon, but that the owners realized they’d be missing out on significant revenue if they weren’t open for premier. I bought 3-4 ornaments—that I had already purchased from the other stores—and gave them to my neighbor’s children.

I stopped by in October and did the same thing—just to support a new business. The strange thing is that I haven’t received any promotional emails or mailers from them since they opened. I hope they make it but I’m concerned that they are skimping in advertising and relying on walk in traffic alone. Bad idea in this day and age. I want new stores to be successful, but I’m a bit nervous about this one.

An independent Hallmark is closing in Summerville, S.C. at the end of this month. There is only one Hallmark store left in the Charleston area, now. There used to be 6. And one of those opened new, after my local store closed and then it was closed within a couple years. I asked at the store, that’s still here, if they were “safe” and they said they don’t know.
I hardly go to the store anymore as it’s not as convenient and Hallmark sends me an email saying I need to spend more to remain a platinum member this year! Frustrating!
