I was driving by my local Hallmark store this morning and I saw the power company working on the street light pole and then I see that the whole right front side (was all glass) was boarded up. I finally found an article explaining that someone was drunk and drove into the store \:\(

These owners are really nice people and I am sure that business is tough as it is let alone now having to deal with this... I couldn't help but think of the poor ornaments as they were displayed in that front right area \:\(

Yikes!

Glad the driver was the only one who was hurt. But I feel for the owners.

Oh dear, what a mess. One evening last year, I dropped by our local Goodwill. There were a number of wrecked cars in the parking lot, a police officer taking pictures, and a few people removing items from their cars. My first thought was, oh, how unfortunate, but then I saw that there were other wrecked cars. I couldn't make sense of it.

An old acquaintance's car had also sustained damage. When I later asked her what had happened, she explained that a man under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs was driving through the parking lot. He was so out of it, he would hit a car, then another, then another, until he finally made it out of the parking lot onto the adjacent four lane road where he crashed into the side of a semi-truck trailer.

On June 9, 2008, two teenage boys broke into a multi-story building in a farming community just to the north of us. They were smoking marijuana and began lighting small items on fire. Not sure if one or both boys were doing it, nor do I recall if one or both tried intially to put the fire out when it grew out of control. Neither boy was hurt, but they were later arrested, convicted, and required to pay restitution.

The building still stands, but sits gutted and empty. The adjacent Hallmark sustained significant smoke damage. Luckily, the ornaments had not yet arrived and they were able to partially reopen Premiere Weekend. Happily, they are still in business.

Stephanie, this is so similar to what happened to my Hallmark store a year or so ago. It was a late Friday or Saturday night so the store was closed, thank goodness. The drunk driver went over the curb into the parking lot, then into the front of the store. The front wall and cash register area were severely damaged. If the store had been open, anyone at the checkout would have been injured for sure. This driver backed out and drove off. One of the employees was driving by and saw what happened and called the manager. Later while the police were there, the driver came back to the convenience store across the street and was watching the "excitement." He got arrested at that point.

Make that three known Hallmark's to get "ran into." While it wasn't my store it was one that is only about five miles away. It happened a few years ago and I don't recall all the details. It is in a strip mall and there is parking immediately in front of it. But I believe it was an ederly person putting his/her car in forward instead of reverse. Immediately afterward concrete bumpers were installed all along the parking spaces that face the stores.

WOW!! Those are quite the pictures of a Jeep running into your local Hallmark store! Thanks for sharing the article with us, Stephanie ;\) !!

But, it figures the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol ... How sad. It sort of relates to this story as earlier this year a "mobile meth lab" was found in the trunk of a car in the Kmart parking lot in Warsaw, IN ... For those of you who have been there, it was right across the parking lot from The Party Shop Hallmark store!!

So that's were I left my jeep! When I was late to the Premier! lol sorry I had to say it! I hope they saved those poor defenceless ornaments!

Something like this happen to my Hallmark 2 years ago. The lady didn't make it threw the glass. But it looked like she had just parallel park on the side walk in between two pillars, right in front of the door. You couldn't get in the store. I think she had a seizure.

I hope this don't make them go out of business! That would be awful!

One of the stores in the chain that sponsors my KC local club had a drive-in accident like this about 10 years ago. The owner told us he had opened the first drive-in Hallmark store in KC. I don't remember what caused that car to jump the curb and go flying in.

Several years ago I was at a thrift store and an older woman came in. She asked to use the phone because she had run her car into one of those pillars you see on the side of buildings to keep you from hitting the building. The woman working at the cash register handed me the cordless phone's handset so I could dial it so that the woman could call her son for help. I asked her if she had turned off the car and locked her doors and she said she hadn't. I went out and got her keys, shut the driver's door and locked the car up. I suggested to the woman working there that she call 911 just to have the firemen come in case something needed to be checked out since her airbag had deployed. I told her that the fire people would rather come and not be needed than to be needed later. I didn't think anything would happen but I figured it wouldn't hurt to call.

Isn't it sad how many Hallmark stores have had cars run into them?

Our local Dollar General store has been drove into 5 times. One time it was a lady who tried to run over her husband! The other were health related and a little old lady who put it in D instead of R! I think the glass doors have a bulls-eye on them.

While nobody ever came through the front of our store, one memorial day Friday a couple years back I was the only key in town for the weekend. Talk about Murphy's law- the air conditioning went out, the phone system went out, and just as I was about to finally get lunch about 4:00 I heard a loud boom. Our Fed Ex driver ran into the back of the building. Luckily he wasn't hurt and the store wasn't damaged enough to have to close but he took down a light, our gutters and a good portion of the roof overhang.

How did you guys manage to stay in business? Just kidding...couldn't resist when I read that intro.

Glad nobody was hurt this time. I guess it's time for your store to be remodeled...

We had a situation in our little town last year where a truck driver from another state took a mountain pass (illegally) and he lost brakes/control, plowed through a busy intersection, ran over a couple of cars, and into a busy book store going about midway through the place and knocking over large book shelves on the way. Miraculously, nobody in the store was seriously injured. But unfortunately, in that incident there were some serious injuries from folks on the road, and a father and daughter in one vehicle lost their lives. It still makes me sad to go through that intersection.
