At the Greer, SC signing yesterday the Hallmark rep said that the companion piece for Santa's Armoire would be the 2011 event piece in Kansas City. She said the name of the piece was "Mrs. Clause Pie Safe". Sorry, don't know any more details that that! 8-)

Thank you for posting, Joshua, that the Hallmark rep attending the Greer, SC signing said next year's companion piece will be Mrs. Claus's pie safe \:\) !! It sounds quite cute ... YIPPEE! Another food related item!! I am growing more and more fond of the cute food pieces Hallmark has come out with in recent years (Season's Treatings series, new cupcake series, etc.) ... Great to look at the food ornaments and not have to worry about how many calories they contain ;\) !!

Would be cute if it had a motion activation alarm on the safe and it said "Please Step away from the Pies".or "Warning, A pie eater is in close procemity", "We have P.E.A. in progress. Attention a P.E.A. in progress.Be on the lookout for a hungry pie eater." like the gift bag line they created a few years ago.

Is the armoire considered a companian piece to the other ornaments we spoke of in some distant thread? Or is the armoire the start of something new and next year's piece the second of an unofficial series?

Carol, you're funny! "Pie" caught my eye too, though I've never heard of a pie safe...

Here is a link to what I have always thought of as pie safes:

Amish Pie Safes

Thanks,

Oh Angela, thanks for the treat! I'd never seen a pie safe. After looking at the prices, it helps put things into perspective for me. Even if I have to pay $100 next year for the event ornament, it's way cheaper than the real thing! Here's my favorite...

Okay, thanks Angela. I can see that coming to life in an ornament with Mrs. Claus.

Angela, those are great pics. I immediately thought of an old fashioned wooden cabinet with the little tin pieces with the tiny holes punched to make a pattern. Can't wait to see what the Keepsakes artists have done with that concept.

Oooh, this made me think of a scene that could be done as a studio piece...Mrs Clause is putting a pie on the window sill to cool. Various elves are busy around the kitchen baking and cleaning up. Another pie is still hot in the oven. On the other side of the window, Santa has an elf up on his shoulders to try and reach the pie from out of the window. A reindeer looks on. You could use it as a centerpiece, put it on a lazy susan to rotate the scene.

Some pie safes are also made of metal or something and many have tin inserts in the doors with holes in them. I don't know all the antique technical terms for them but usually back when I use to venture into antique shops they were always 400.00 and UP and UP . . . (depending on condition).

I actually have a pie safe from my grandmother. It is similar to the pictures, but has punched metal inserts in the sides and door for air circulation. The punched holes form a circular desing that is almost like a quilt pattern. And no, I don' keep pies in it. Pie safes are great for storage.

I really didnt consider a pie safe as a compliment to armorie. Why not Mrs Santa's Chester Drawers. Each 4 drawers you open it has some stuff in it. Let see top drawer, How about a cute santa print flannel pjs with a kitten sleeping on them. with some slipper with a mouse asleep in them. or wait...why not a slipper beside dresser foot and behind dresser is a puppy with other slipper in his mouth.

WAIT WAIT...WHY NOT AN OLD FASHION SEWING TABLE

THINK OF THE DETAILS...MOUSE OPERATING THE SEWING MACHINE, CAT WITH A SPOOL OF THREAD, DOG WITH A RAG DOLL IN HIS MOUTH.
