OK . . . I haven't kept up with everything D23 for a couple of months although I did renew my membership, just in case, and was looking over at the disneydirect site at the D23 Boutique and saw they have THREE covers for the Summer 2010 issue. What is up with that? Mine is still sitting in its cardboard shipping container . . . . so I have no idea which of the three I have, but in the meantime until I organize my back issues, I thought I'd ask here. IF no one knows, then I'll venture over to some Disney forum to check for answers but in the meantime thanks for any clues as to WHY there are three covers for the same issue.

That, I think, is becoming a more common practice. Entertainment Weekly has had four differenct covers on recent issues at least twice. And several sports magazines have also done it. And, they usually offer a website or phone number so you can order them all. That's what it is all about--generating more sales.

Thanks, Ted. I've seen it before but it has been a long time and was something historic or some major event, don't remember. OUCH that would be an extra 32.00 bucks plus shipping for the two other covers and since the first is "part" of the membership fees, 48.00 dedicated to ONE issue is way over the top for me. And I love Toy Story but I don't think I'll fork out the extra cash.

Multiple covers usually indicate low sales of the magazine and they are trying to generate interest and rack up false sales numbers. Magazines that have been losing readership over the past several years like Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide and comic books have been doing this for quite a while. Not a good sign for the magazine. Trust me, I work in printing.

Being a Disney fan, I pick up D23 magazine at Barnes and Noble but I really can't see it continuing for a long time unless they expand into other outlets other than subscriptions and Barnes and Noble. And then, I would think they would have to get the cost under ten dollars to really attract sales.
