Nice group of ornaments.

For awhile I went with only figural ornaments on trees, but didn't care for the looks and started adding back ball ornaments as well as "fillers" and much prefer how they turn out now. The ball ornaments give back a soft glow from the lights, and there is just something about that round shape that is pleasing.

Diana, I too am beginning to look more at the decorating possibilities that the Hallmark glass ball ornaments add.

Today, as I was putting away my thrift store finds, I found a stowaway in the box of one my Hallmark ornaments! An Old World Christmas glass gum drop ornament. Had to have the whole set for my Santa's Sweet Ride theme tree...[giggle]...

I found a couple of good ornaments I didn't have today.

1979 A Christmas Treat. I love that the candy cane is the hook. It was .81 with tax. No box

1978 Disney satin ball with Mickey Mouse, Donald, Pluto, and goofy all riding on a train. It's nice and clean. A surprise for a 32 year old white satin ball. It was .81 no box.

1989 Sparkling snowflake. It's brass. Ornament was in the box for .79. When I opened the box there was an ornament stand inside. Bonus!!! It does look pretty on the stand. I think I will keep it that way.

2007 Joy of the WORLD. The too big kids with their houses. I found Ireland. Both pieces no box for .81 with tax. They were not a good seller the year they came out. I remember seeing them 75% off everywhere. At that price I will add it to my St. Patricks stuff.

Is the 1979 ornament the one with the grooves between the red and white stripes on the candy cane or is it the 1980 one? Mine is tucked away in a storage tub and I believe I have a 1979 one.

Went thrift store shopping today on my last day off before Christmas. Struck out at Goodwill, and at Salvation Army, I just found a cloth 25 cent Holly Hobbie ornament in original packaging with American Greetings logo. And a really cute snowman candy dish for a dollar. Struck out at another thrift store too.

But at Value Village, all Christmas was half off, and they bag small, loose Christmas stuff up, so I picked up the last bag they had to look and saw a wooden horse ornament in it painted to look like a FP horse toy that my brother had when he was little as well as a wooden old man with glasses similar in style to one of my brother's favorite childhood ornaments. It was full of other junk too, but it was $1.81, so it was 90 cents for the bag. I bought it to give the ornaments to my mom. Unfortunately when I got home, I discovered one of the horse's wheels was broken off. \:\( Hopefully I can fix it by buying new wheels at a craft store and glueing them over the old.

Buried in that 90 cent bag though was...

1997 Waitin' on Santa (no box of course):
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1997-Waitin-on-Santa_p_4522.html

It's a bit dirty, but at least it wasn't broken since a lot of the stuff was. I'm tossing the broken and will be donating the rest minus the horse, old man, and Hallmark to Goodwill.

Thrilled to find at least 1 Hallmark in that shopping trip! Even though it was a total surprise!

Oh, and I actually won a Hallmark lot on shopgoodwill. It ended up being $20.74 with S&H, and I think I mostly won because the lot never mentioned Hallmark, but I knew it was one.
1981 The Divine Miss Piggy (MIB):
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1981-Divine-Miss-Piggy--MIB_p_535.html
I was so excited to win it since I'd love to have all four of the 80s figural Muppets ornaments. 1 down and 3 to go! I got her a few days ago. Granted, it's not the rare Miss Piggy, but I'll take it!

While separating ornaments I found out that one I had lumped in the "misc non-Hallmark junk to donate pile" was actually a Hallmark! LOL.
It's a fabric candy cane. It has a face, arms and legs. A tag reads "CANE D. STRIPE" in big green letters. On the back of the tag, sure 'nough, is 1986 Hallmark Cards, Inc.
This came in a mixed bag of stuff, which I had picked up for one or two little Hallmark ornaments I spied in there. It also had things like old flocked birds with long filament tails, hand painted (badly done but with love I'm sure) wooden ornaments etc. Truly a hodge-podge. When separating at first glance, I just assumed it was one of those hand-sewn from printed fabric pieces...you know where you buy a yard of fabric and they had pre-printed ten different ornaments on it and you just cut out, stuff and sew? An 80's craft project type of thing. Oh, found it on ebay (of course...LOL):

I checked out Goodwill store today. There was a basket of loose ornaments and I found #5 in the Reindeer Champs series - Comet. I asked how much it was and they told me 10 cents. When I checked out, Christmas stuff was half off,so I got it for a nickel! No box, of course, but for a nickel, I was happy.

Checked two consignment stores today. One had Hallmart ornaments but were priced from $6 on up. The other had ornaments the same price but were 1/2 off. I didn't buy anything.

Great deal on a Reindeer Champs, Linda. When you find one by itself like that, does it make you wonder if somebody else beat you to the rest in the series? Or why somebody would only own one out of a series?

Sorry your shopping was a bust Sue, better luck next time.

You SCORED, Dana! Whoo-whoo!

Congrats Dana and Linda! Sue, I had a similar experience last night. Found some interesting Hallmark ornaments including the Kitchen Angels Spoon Tree, 2003, by Sue Tague...

http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-HALLMARK-KEEPSA...=item588bb1d9ce

Am thinking about going back to get it. No box though and it may be missing one of the ornaments...but at half price for $1.99...maybe...

Diana, I was thinking maybe someone was interested in whatever (in this case soccer) at the time. When they lost interest in it, it went to Goodwill. Especially with it being in a basket of miscellaneous stuff without a box.

The thing about the ornaments I saw was - they were not special - nothing that should demand that high a price. Around here the thrift shops all price at 1/2 box price and sometimes higher. Even after Christmas they only go 1/2 of the thrift store price so there aren't any real bargains. I never see any of them around when the price goes down to $1.00.

Sue, they charge a lot for Hallmarks here too, typically $1.99 to $4.99. They were half off today.

Went back to the thrift store today this morning and found...

Kitchen Angels Spoon Tree for $1.99 - (but missing star cookie ornament and, dang it, one of the spoon branches, I backtracked and couldn't find it) http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-HALLMARK-KEEPSA...=item588bb1d9ce

A Time to Believe, 2002, no box, $1.49 - (it features a light clip and wind up movement) http://cgi.ebay.com/Hallmark-Time-Believ...=item3f03459729

North Pole Power & Light, 1987, for $.99 http://cgi.ebay.com/HALLMARK-NORTH-POLE-...=item45f7993c94

And a few non-Hallmark items...6 frosted, 6 clear highly detailed, beautiful snowflakes and a 7" crochet angel tree topper mixed with other items in a bag for $1.99
