Estate Sales are also a great place to find ornaments. I recently found the 1980 Frost Friends ornament, 1st in the series, at an estate sale....paid $2.00 for it. No box and the books were missing other than that the ornament was in excellent shape.

If you want to buy some books that are considered original you can buy them from someone on eBay. I think they run about $20.

Welcome to the board ssh. That's a great find on that Frosty Friends!

I found one today, but it was 1989 (with the dog sled). No box, but thrilled with the 50 cent price tag.

Also picked up (all no box):

1982 Tree Chimes .25 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1982-Tree-Chimes-_p_667.html
2003 Christmastime in the City .50 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/2003-Christmastime-in-the-City_p_6526.html

2000 Alice Meets the Cheshire Cat .75 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/2000-Alice-Meets-the-Cheshire-Cat_p_5322.html
1989 Gift Bringers .50 cents (it has some color chips off the inside bottom but it isn't noticeable when hanging...I figured if I didn't want to keep it the Hallmark cap was worth the 50 cents) http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1989-Gift-Bringers-1_p_1943.html
1970's Praying Angel pin $1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Hallmark...=item3a7b936479
Vintage Santa Face pin (I have several Santa face pins but Hallmark made SO many varieties I wasn't sure if I had this one or not) $1.50 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hallmark-PIN-Chr...=item2ec2b69826
Santa pin (full bodied - LOVE this one) $2.50 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Santa-Claus-Pin-Signed-Hallmark-Cards-/370641006738
and lots of non-Hallmark products like:
Bradford Mickey & Minnie Snow-body Warms My Heart Like You. $1. http://www.price2watch.com/sears/outdoor...e-you/p/9933198
Lladro 1994 porcelain bell ornament $1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lladro-1994-Annu...=item337da084ab
Also bought some bags stuffed with various ornaments at a different thrift store, but need to sort through them.

I went to a different thrift store today. They had a lot of Christmas items, but I don't like how they handle their sale. They bundle ornaments together willy nilly. I bought five bags of ornaments at $1.99 each, but each bag had a mish-mash of art plas, resin, and glass (that's right, glass balls or mercury glass figurals) packed into plastic bags stapled at the top. Each bag had at least one glass ball ornament broken into bits, meaning little jagged bits and annoying glass dust over every other item in the bag.

Basically, there was one good ornament and one ok ornament in each $1.99 bag, along with a few "filler" items, some junk that will be donated back again, and some trash.

Was thrilled to find this ornament, but once out of the plastic bag dismayed to find out the little tails on the birds were already broken:
2004 Nature's Sketchbook #2 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/2004-Natures-Sketchbook-2_p_7110.html
I might try my hand at a patch repair during that infamous "someday."

This was probably the best find:
1977 Nostalgia Angel http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1977-Angel-Nostalgia--NB_p_11143.html

Although I was also happy with:
1989 Thimble (dog) #12 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1989-Thimble-12-_p_1945.html
2004 Winter Garden (window) http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/2004-Winter-Garden_p_6901.html

Unfortunately, this one has some gold writing on the back that I didn't notice at first (a dedication to a friend):
1997 Friendship Blend http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1997-Friendship-Blend_p_4359.html

The arm holding the key was broken off this one, but it was a ball & socket joint anyway, so easy to re-glue:
2004 Carlton New Home (Penguin) http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARLTON-2004-NEW...=item3cb3d334cc

Liked these bonuses that were in the bags for the ornaments above:
2004 Son Carlton ornament http://www.tias.com/8175/PictPage/1923058273.html
Russ Cat A+ Teacher http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-Teacher-Cat-Ki...260702721369%26

These are cute, but not quite sure what to do with them:
2004 Carlton Godchild http://glasswareandstonewareandmore.ecrater.com/p/9511036/carlton-cards-heirloom-godchild-ornament

Deano, love the thimble ornaments and hadn't seen the Ambassador Pink Panther ornament before. What a fun find!

A nice find for me. I found the 1984 Halloween Merry Miniature black flocked crouching kitten in a bag of misc stuff. I didn't have this merry miniature. The flocked ones are hard to find in good condition.

I only need 37 more merry miniatures and I will have them all.
I also still need 10 containers/boxes.

It's those early years 1974, 1975, 1976 that are so hard to find. They keep me looking.

I started collecting in 1988 and have purchased most of them at garage sales and thrift stores.

Susan, I'm amazed the flocking was still in good condition...lucky, lucky find!

I admire your patience. If I find something in a thrift store, I'll sometimes complete the set on Ebay. Trying really hard to break that habit.

Tonight I had 25 minutes to visit my two favorite thrift stores. Nothing at the first but at the second store, I found two candle light strings for $2.99 each. Will try them out in the morning after I've gotten some sleep.

Not sure which was my favorite find, the candles or what I thought was a NHS ornament. I was wrong. Imagine my surprise when I saw the magic cord...and it works! He-he-he...

It's a Wonderful Life, 1991, no box http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hallmark-1991-It...=item53ebf59a1b

Forgot to mention yesterday's finds - all no box:

1986 Timble #9 partridge
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1986-Thimble-9-_p_1278.html

Yarn girl caroler (she's in great shape except her face has darkened - probably due to the glue used. Any suggestions for that? Her muff is bright white and still has the holly on it, the skirt looks primo, her hat has been squashed but a little water and an iron will fix that. The red and white gingham is more red and tan. She was 25 cents, so not a big deal if I can't spruce her up.
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1975-Yarn-Girl-Caroler_p_69.html

1984 Polar Drummer Bear - flocking in great shape but needs a gentle bath:
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1984-Polar-Bear-Drummer-_p_10952.html

A bag with four glass ball ornaments for $2:
1981 Christmas ball ornament "Let us Adore Him" - really pretty
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1981-Let-Us-Adore-Him-_p_10880.html
1979 25th Anniversary (with some spots at top and bottom)
1974 Betsey Clark #2 (a few light spots at the bottom)
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1974-Betsey-Clark-2-NB_p_7425.html
1975 Betsey Clark #3 (also very lightly spotted)
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1975-Betsey-Clark-3--DB_p_59.html

Non-Hallmark:

Disney Store Prep and Landing ornament still on the Disney card. In great shape. Retail price $9.50. Thrift store price $1. Sweet!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2012-DISNEY-...=item3f1ed6004c

Dunkin Donuts new in box, box of Munchkins Donut Holes. Their donut box sports a festive, snowy scene. 25 cents. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dunkin-Donuts-Or...=item2a21e37aca
My sister used to work at a Dunkin Donuts when I was a kid, so I have fond memories of going there and hanging out chowing on donuts.

A 3d snowflake with no markings, but I found it on ebay. Silverplate by Home for the Holidays. It's the one on the far left. 25 cents
and it's companion, for 50 cents, is on the bottom.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Home-for-the-H...=item2324d10ccd
If I keep going back to that thrift store, maybe I can complete the set?

A pretty, little, mercury-glass Santa for 50 cents. No markings, too many on ebay to search through. He has a blue mittens holding a blue bag with golden stars on it, and is wearing painted on eye glasses.

Variety of knitted, felt, ceramic, and plush teddy bears between 25 cents to a dollar.

Elizabeth Root "Snowflakes of Hawaii" brass ornament. It's a square shape, so not really snowflake (they need six fold symmetry not found in a square). It uses geckos in the design though, so neat on it's own accord (won't put it on a snowflake tree). In a dented original box for 25 cents.

Some kits to make your own ribbon and beaded ornaments for $1 each. Will put the kids to work making them over Thanksgiving break.

A present for Ted 88eggs if I see him at the KOC event...

Diana, do you know where I can purchase the Prep and Landing ornament you found? I want it!

Those 3D snowflakes are hard to find. I think you should keep looking for the other two...fingers and toes crossed you find them. And you're the second person this year to find the first Betsey Clark ornament you listed. It's a beautiful ornament.

I'm amazed by what you're finding. Congrats!

Lisa, that Prep and Landing ornament was sold at the Disney stores and Disney online. I don't know if they are repeating it or not (they sometimes will bring back popular designs).

I like the 3d snowflakes, too. I've done an all snowflake tree before - love the silver, white, and blue together.

More finds to be listed later...

Here are the ornaments that jumped into my shopping basket today:

1981 Muppets $2.50 in sdb http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1981-Muppets--DB_p_8458.html
I actually bought two by mistake. I picked up one box and went, "Oh great, Miss Piggy Muppets! I don't have that. Then picked up the other and went, "Cool, this one is Kermit! Perfect" not thinking to turn either around to see they were the same ornament. LOL.

1978 Granddaughter $1.50 in sd(partial)box. I like this satin ball, will turn the Granddaughter part to the back and display the cute artwork. http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1978-Granddaughter--SDB_p_8148.html

1987 I Remember Santa in sdb (really like this one, never noticed it before). $1.50 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1987-I-Remember-Santa-_p_1422.html

1993 Playful Pals Coca-cola in nice box $3. I bought this one in 93 for my Mom and Dad as the dog on the ornament looked like their dog. That memory makes this more special for me. http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1993-Playful-Pals-Coca-Cola_p_3093.html

1984 Baby's First Christmas (teddy in sled) sdb $2. LOVE this one, may sand off the reference to baby... (I bought one a few years ago at a show and discovered later it was missing an arm...boo).
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1984-Babys-First-Christmas-_p_12404.html

1990 Irish Windows of the World sdb $2
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/search.asp?keyword=1990+Irish&search=GO&sn=160462956

1984 Alpine Elf $2 sdb - a cutie patooty (have a couple of these)
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/search.asp?keyword=alpine+Elf&search=GO&sn=160462956

1983 Hitchhiking Santa $2 sdb
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1983-Hitchhiking-Santa_p_744.html

1994 Speedy Gonzalez (skiing) sdb $2.50 (Zach convinced me to get this one. He loves the commercial where somebody asks Speedy how do you say Taco in Spanish and he simply says, "Taco." Zach says we should do a "humor" tree.)
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1994-Speedy-Gonzales_p_3484.html

1990 Brother (doggy in a baseball glove). I think this would fit with Puppy Love series. Might sand off the brother reference. sdb $2 http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1990-Brother--Puppy_p_8909.html

1990 Feliz Navidad (mouse on peppers) sdb $2.50 I don't even want to think about what I paid for one of these 15 years or so ago...I love the little mousie so had to have this one when I started collecting. I've been slowly buying two of each Feliz Navidad so can make a balanced garland.
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1990-Feliz-Navidad_p_2100.html

1991 Feliz Navidad (Santa with Sombrero over head) MIB $2.50
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1991-Feliz-Navidad_p_2371.html

1992 Feliz Navidad (mouse on guitar) sdb $2.50
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1992-Feliz-Navidad--DB_p_2687.html

1988 Olde English Village #1 mini sdb $1.50
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1988-Old-English-Village-1--miniature_p_7206.html

and the best box find...
1993 Puppy Love #3. Retriever on sled. in great box $2.50
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1993-Puppy-Love-3_p_3098.html

also some no box ornaments:

1980 Colors of Christmas Joy (cut out) 25 cents
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1980-Joy--NB_p_8280.html

1993 Top Banana 25 cents
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1993-Top-Banana_p_3154.html

1978 Little Trimmers Santa 25 cents
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1978-Santa--Little-Trimmers-DB_p_34052.html

1977 Drummer Boy acrylic 25 cents
http://www.hookedonhallmark.com/1977-Drummer-Boy--SDB_p_160.html

This Drummer Boy had a broken drum stick, but I felt sorry for him, thinking he might not find a home, so bought him even though I knew he was broken. I'm considering repainting him and making a replacement drum stick... he was only 25 cents.
