I found only one Hallmark yesterday, the 1984 Christmas Prayer. Normally I don't buy the ball ornaments but I've never seen one with the little crown on top and it was in great shape, no box for a quarter.

I think I have that ball ornament too Karen. It's really sweet!

Tonight I ventured out again and found a box of 2 dozen red, 1/2" Shiny Brite ornaments; "Regular Price 45 cents, Our Price 33 cents"; "Made In Japan". Someone wrote "25" in black marker on the celephane, and the celophane is split, but the box and ornaments are otherwise in "like new" condition. I sold my vintage glass collection years ago, but to find a complete box of ornaments in such good condition was a lot of fun for me!

Here's an Ebay listing that shows the box style - (click on the link and scroll down; it's the box to the left of the other two)...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-Vintage-Feat...=p2047675.l2557

In the same bag was a vintage box of ornament hangers and the Hallmark ornament, Rapid Delivery, 1992...

http://www.hookedonornaments.com/1992-Rapid-Delivery_p_2765.html

His paddle appears to have been repaired. I'm going to add him to my elf collection.

I think I paid a $1.99 for the bag.

I went to 3 stores today. Two stores had 1/2 price on Christmas.
The 3rd did not and that is the store I got:

1982 Cowboy Snowman MIB with no price tag. I didn't have it and it will be perfect for the snowman tree. Paid $2.16

The same store had an empty box for a Nostalgia round ornament. No plastic lid but it had the gold tag with price and stock number. No ornament- believe me I looked for it.
The box was priced $1.06 on the bottom of the box. I asked the lady if that was the price without an ornament. She looked at me so strange..and said " Why would you want to buy an empty Box?" I told her I had the ornament at home that would go in the box.
I think she had heard it all that day!!! She told me to just take the box!!
I got home and looked up the stock number. 183-5. The box is for the 1977 Nostalgia TOYS ornament. I do have it, and it is without a box. I'm pleased to move the ornament into the box- even without the plastic lid.
Merry Christmas to me!!

Very funny, Susan, thanks for the laugh. As they say, "what do you give someone who has everything? A box to put it in!"

Good finds, Lisa. I am also learning that some of this thrift store ornaments and other items are not always in great condition. Something will be broken, missing, or chipped. I've certainly bought quite a few like that but the money goes to charity, so its all good, but I need to really start wearing my glasses in these stores. Now, I even have a magnifying glass in my purse!

Especially hard to inspect when they are clustered all in a bag too

Brand new, still in shrink wrap plastic, priced at 2.99 than half off for Xmas, so 1.50--this may be my best find of the year!

Great find LouisaMay. I remember buying extras of that cookie sheet with magnets on Ebay for the grandchildren!

Susan, only we know the value of those boxes for the older ornaments. I found one for the 1st in series thimble ornament a few years ago, and was able to buy the ornament, no box, on Ebay for far less than I would have otherwise.

At first I thought someone stole the ornament and replaced it with a silly reindeer pom pom pin, but now that I think more about it, I think a Hallmark ornament collector wanted someone to have the box so he or she put something in it so it wouldn't be cast aside in preparation for the annual rummage sale.

It ammazes me what people get rid of. The last two ornaments above, especially! Great finds everybody! I found a bunch yesterday I am hoping to get on here soon.

Well, I went into two thrift stores today since Xmas is 50% off. The first one, lo and behold...it was an OMG moment. Right in front of checkout they had a table of Xmas and there was the 2006 Chickadee...in box, one slight crease for $3.25 and half off that price! A line of women, and I just casually reached for the box and scooped it into my cart. It is in excellent condition. This was my one moment where I was just amazed...still am

You lucky duck! Congratulations! I'd love to find it. That and the Beauty of the Birds #1, I've been hoping to find in a thrift store or yard sale or flea market.

Yeah, I am pretty ecstatic...made my Xmas. Although I would really like to find the cardinal which I don't have!

My plan for this year is all those extra ornaments I didnt care for in bags get tagged on gifts for added oomph.

Then I picked up "gifts" to regift to family and friends. Items I saw that I thought they would like. They will get wrapped with a note that by accepting this gift they helped childrens hospitals, goodwill or salvation army. Sorta like they helped charity, and recycled in the planet.

Then, all those other ornaments I don't use on gifts for decoration will go into a bowl for visitors to sort through and take what they want.

Any other ideas are welcome! I'm just thinking out loud.

LouisaMay, I just read your exciting news. Doing the happy dance...congrats!

I also enjoy giving thrift store finds as gifts. These are my finds for our 8 and 6 year old grandchildren this Christmas Eve - (all in new or good condition)...

From top, left to right: Bubbleology: A Hands-On Science Kit; marbles from a popular toy store in Seattle; a Santa finger puppet by Folkmanis; Fairies and Magical Creatures (Pop-Up Book) by Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda; Double Six Dominos Set; Tiddly Winks; and a wooden Tic-Tac-Toe game. Total cost: $17!

For Christmas, we're giving them six new hardcover books by William Joyce.

It's so much fun finding these treasures!

Oh wow, Lisa...I love all the loot. Don't you just love Folkmanis puppets? I just bought the rabbit one to add to my collection...since I have a real rabbit. Haven't played tiddlywinks in ages, but these are some lucky children. Fantastic thriftiness...and recycling too!
