Yeah, wanted to separate the topic since this one will go on for a full year.

Watching, waiting for Steamboat Willie (thanks Mark for clarifying the reason behind the first Mickey appearance). wink

In other news...Walt Disney August limited has SOLD OUT!

And now, we wait.

Phew, I bought it just in time.

And glad I could "help" out with Steamboat Willie.

I received mine last week and it's really a nice ornament. And it's not very heavy. I look forward to getting the whole set - and I hope that I remember each month. :-)

I don't collect Disney ornaments but I see they are resin and only $12.95. How does the craftsmanship compare to HMK?

They're good for their price (if you wait until all have been revealed, they usually have a sale on them to make them cheaper).

-Since they are resin, they are usually heavier than Hallmark ornaments.
-Paint jobs seem to vary like Hallmarks with a few errors.
-Sculpts are excellent, right on par with what Hallmark does.
-Size is usually bigger than Hallmark Disney ornaments, but it just depends on the ornament.
-Price is more affordable than Hallmarks, especially if they do a sale like last year ($10 each for buying 2 or more last year).
-Disney Store's Sketchbook line seems to take more risks with their choices. Don't get me wrong, they always do some Mickey, some Pooh, and princesses, but they mix it up and add in things like The Rescuers. This year, they've done some based on classic Disney shorts. Hallmark tends to stick to stuff they know will sell and will only put out maybe 2-3 "riskier" ornaments of characters that aren't as well known.
-If you order them online, Sketchbook ornaments come in white boxes with foam inserts, so they're well-protected. If you buy them in stores, they are only on a hanging tag.
-The Sketchbook line can get reissued (Hallmark can too, technically, I guess, but it's not as common).
-Sometimes the Sketchbook ornaments that don't get reissued become very hard to find on the secondary market and you see high prices, higher than a typical Hallmark Disney ornament. Trust me, there are plenty from years past I would love to have (Si and Am with the fish bowl comes to mind), but they're too expensive for my tastes.

I'd love to see a site dedicated to the Sketchbook line so I could see all of them.

The Moments That Made Disney series though is more expensive and highly limited (they come in boxes kind of like Keepsakes with foam inserts). This is the first time they've done this, and it seems those of us who bought the Walt Disney one are quite pleased with it, so hopefully the rest of the series is good. If Hallmark had chosen to do this as a monthly series, I would have been on-board since this is more my "thing." I prefer characters/scenes you don't see all the time. I've got so many Disney ornaments, that I don't want to constantly buy Mickey, Pooh, and princesses, you know? Disney Store's Sketchbook line lets my collection "branch" out.

I will only add that if you buy the ornaments in The Disney Store, they do wrap your ornament in bubble wrap for you.

My ornament arrived today! I like it, although I do wish the sculpture of Walt didn't look quite so generic. He could be one of many young men. I didn't expect him to look like the older Walt, but he could look more like the younger Walt.

Mine arrived, too. I'm really jazzed to be able to hang Walt with the rest of the Disney gang. Seems only appropriate that he be featured somewhere on the tree.
Come to think of it, would be fun to have Walt from a clip on the Wonderful World of Disney that lights up on a little tv set. I so enjoyed that as a kid.

And a few other Sketchbook ornaments -- Captain America and a couple of glass Sketchbook ornaments (Mickey and Minnie). Also, there is a Grumpy ornament. I wonder if they will have all of the dwarfs as ornaments. :-)

Hey! Disney Store UK actually has the date up for Flowers and Trees:

http://www.disneystore.co.uk/the-walt-disney-ornament-collection/mn/1505501/

Steamboat Willie appeared on the UK site today, so that means, we'll probably see Flowers and Trees on Monday October 13th (if not, then Tuesday the 14th).

Takes the guess work out. wink But, Disney Store UK doesn't have all of them displayed like we do, so I'm grateful for our Disney Store website too.

Steamboat Willie arrived for me today! I'm quite pleased with him. Smaller than the standard Sketchbook ornaments makes him lighter weight. Plus, I like smaller sized ornaments. These seem more akin to a Hallmark Disney ornament size, and I just prefer that size.

I placed my orders a couple of days late, and I got the e-mail that said mine was coming tonight. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday.

And...he's sold out:
http://www.disneystore.com/mickey-mouse-...363661/1000344/

Yet in the UK, they still have the August release, September release, and the Art of Aurora set (also was limited to 1000 pieces).

Europeans just don't go as overboard decorating as we do, huh? wink Probably also helps that the US population is much higher than the UK...

Got mine when I arrived back from the San Antonio signing today. And it's really great. I am really glad that I started this series!

I decided to pick and choose on these. I like the Flowers and Trees, Saludos Amigos and the Fantasia ornaments. I'll probably just go with those.

Thanks for the heads up!
I have my order placed, but wouldn'tcha know it, now the singing Elsa ornament was out of stock! Urgh. Wish I could get the release dates to line up so I could order what I actually want altogether.
Hope I can get the Moments that Made Disney next month AND the singing Elsa at the same time.
Also, they were having a free shipping with a Disney Parks item, and there was something there I was thinking about getting, but that ended yesterday, so again, phooey! I purchased a few of the other sketchbook ornaments instead to get up the free shipping with $75 order. At least now they are on sale.
