I love, love The Nutcracker Suite ornaments that Edythe Kegrize and Julie Forsyth created from 2009-2010. And I also like some of the ones they created separately in 2011 and 2014, Waltz of the Flowers (page 1 in link below) and Winter's Waltz (page 2 in link below)...

Another ornament I like is 2014 Graceful Ballerina by Julie Forsyth...

I don't have enough ornaments for a stand alone Nutcracker Ballet theme tree. My plan was to add them to my fairy theme tree but now that I'm beginning to add gnomes to that tree, not so sure any more.

What other themes do you think might work with the Nutcracker Ballet ornaments, on a full size tree?

Candy, snowflakes, ballet slippers, clocks, nutcracker soldiers. If you could find ticket stubs to a local production, you could punch a hole in them, make a ribbon loop for it and hang it on the tree.

If you don't mind going outside Hallmark, I highly recommend the Kurt S. Adler Nutcracker ornaments:

Those are the ones I have. They also have a tree topper!

This is my nutcracker display (across the tops of two bookcases):

You can see my Kurt S. Adler ornaments displayed on a gold ornament displayer to the side. I changed their boring cord to pretty glitter gold ribbons.

I think you add these to your The Nutcracker Suite tree:

1990 Born to Dance
1990 Sugar Plum Fairy
1993 On Her Toes
1996 Star of the Show
1998 Future Ballerina
1999 Dance for the Season
2000 Ballerina Barbie
2001 Barbie as the Sugar Plum Fairy
2002 Barbie as Snowflake
2003 Dancer in Flight
2004 Dancer En Pointe
2004 The Ballet I Love Lucy
2008 Barbie Ballerina
2009 Barbie Ballerina
2010 Barbie Prima in Pink
2010 Flickering Fairy
2011 Prima Ballerina Barbie
2012 Brava, Ballerina!
2012 Snowflake Ballerina
2013 Beautiful Ballerina
2013 Ballerina Dreams
2014 Winter's Waltz

Admittedly, some people might not consider some of them might not make it to trees decorated by others, but I like to include things that make people smile or laugh because they are different from what you expect to see. I put funny things into some of my EMails to see if people really read what I write (if you say something about the unexpected words I know you read the whole thing and it made an impression on you).

Thanks luckdragon and Nancy for the suggestions of ornaments I could add to my Nutcracker Ballet collection. I think. I'm broke right now. Need to save money now for my club membership renewal. smile

What I'm wondering is what themes that are not Nutcracker Ballet or Ballet themed might work with the 5 or 6 ornaments I listed. For example, I think they would have worked with my Fairy theme tree, that is, until I decided to add gnomes and gnome houses.

Looking for a theme many of us already have to add the 5 or 6 ornaments I listed above.

One idea I have is to add them to my "cookie and candy" theme tree, in part because I include gumdrop ornaments as part of that theme. What do you think?

Thanks for all your suggestions. Not sure what to do with these ornaments and they are favorites. smile

The ballet is based on a book by E.T.A. Hoffmann called "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." However, an important difference between the ballet and the novella is that the nutcracker in the book takes Clara to the land of the dolls. The land of sweets is unique to the ballet.

So, technically, it could be added to a book theme tree. Personally, I consider the Nutcracker (ballet and/or book) to be akin to a fairy tale, so a fairy tale theme works.

luckdragon, I have more time now to look at your Nutcracker collection (and thanks for the link to the picture in a larger format!). Great collection. I'd so treasure it.

I'm still unsure as to whether or not I should have collected the Kurt S. Adler Nutcracker ornament collection. I really thought about it. But at the time, the closest Hobby Lobby was an hour and a half away... It's a nice collection. What I probably should do is start a Nutcracker fund, so when I do find a complete collection, I'll be able to afford it. I'd forgotten about the display tree you'd found for the ornaments, a meant to be. Glad you and Deana were able to get it. smile

After reading your last post, I realized I could add these ornaments to my nursery rhyme and story book theme tree. Thanks for the reminder that the story was originally a book. I even have the E.T.A. Hoffmann book illustrated by Maurice Sendak. In fact, the only time I've seen The Nutcracker performed was the one with the set and costumes designed by Sendak, performed in Seattle, I think in the 1980's.

This theme tree is going to be such a mix of themes though. I like Qui-gon Grin's suggestion of grouping themes on the Christmas tree. If I do that, it might just work. smile

The 1993 On Her Toes - (silly me, I meant 1996 Star of the Show) - by Nina Aube. It's really cute. I think my favorite, of the one's I don't have, is the 1999 Dance for the Season by Joanne Eschrich. A few are funny, most are lovely, the Barbie ones too. Thanks for the list Nancy. smile
