eBay has announced that they are adding the ADYEN payment system to "further improve the customer experience by intermediating payments on our Marketplace platform. In doing so, eBay will manage the payments flow, simplifying the end-to-end experience for both buyers and sellers. We have signed an agreement with Adyen, a leading global payments processor, to become our primary payments processing partner. PayPal, a long-time eBay partner, will be a payments option at checkout for eBay buyers."

This will take a few years to implement apparently. No mention of the cost to sellers. I sent an email asking about this.

UPDATE:
eBay did not answer my question so I sent another email pointing that out and they STILL didn't answer the question. eBay is sending out canned responses even though they are using a special email address for this subject. paymentsinfo@ebay.com

eBay wouldn't even say if the fees sellers will have to pay Adyen will be the same, more or less than the Paypal fees.

I don't know why it will take them years to get Adyen implemented. But right now eBay is having trouble sending "confirmation of listing" emails to the sellers. This has been a problem for a week now so...

Good to know. Why do you think it will take a couple of years when they've signed an agreement and announced it?

The only reason Paypal is as big as it is is because it was the only way to buy stuff off ebay for years (and ebay used to own them). This has got to be a hit to them.

I'm hoping a little competition will lower the fees to use online paying.

Doesn't eBay own PayPal?

No, eBay sold PayPal a year or two ago.

I think I just read that eBay still owns Paypal but moved it into a separate company.
