I received a KOC Convention Update email today with some news about the "Trim Your Home" activity (some sessions will have Joanne Eschrich participating instead of Ken Crow) among other general info. It also says we'll receive regular emails and previews every few weeks now. So if you're registered for convention, be sure to check your email if you haven't yet today...

Less Lines, More Fun – With your registration, you’ve reserved your spot for the artist signings and activity sessions you want. The artist signing line process has been improved. You will have an assigned place in line during your time slot. Everyone will get through in their time slot, and we’ve built in a passing period to get to your next signing with plenty of time if you’re signing back-to-back. Also building your own schedule means no waiting hours in line to participate in activity session fun. We’ll simply scan your badge and you’re in. Doors to activity session rooms will open 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

I am glad I'm not the line monitor if they think people will agree to line up in the order of their positions. Usually there isn't much room in the lines for someone to move forward, like if you're #3 and get there after #1, #2, #5, #6, and #9. I guess we'll see! At least we won't be spending an hour in line, hoping to get in, only to find out that you thought you were behind one person only to find out that they were holding a spot for three other people who were out doing something else. I don't mind placeholders for people who can't stand for a long period of time, but for someone to be off doing something else only to arrive as the doors open isn't good behavior.

This works for the signings. Hopefully, they have a way to make that work for the event as well.

We went to a signing a few years ago where it was a numbered signing and it was the worst signing ever. Even the artist said so.

I can see where it may become problematic. Especially with larger crowds.

here's a little bit of information about the dinner from the email: Enhanced Evening Dinners – Friday’s Winter Wonderland buffet dinner will provide choices to please everyone’s taste buds. Saturday’s Magic of Christmas dinner will be a slightly more formal plated dinner. All meals will accommodate known dietary restrictions. If you have special dietary needs, be sure to let us know by clicking “modify your registration” on the convention website.

I posted a bunch of questions about this on the Community, and someone else had asked for answers earlier in May. She said that Hallmark said they'd provide more information by the end of the month. Once again, Hallmark prints calendars but doesn't follow them. There are a lot of people who would like to know more and for some reason that doesn't make a difference to those who should be communicating with us.

One thing that was discussed in the EMail is that if you buy all of the available ornaments you get a $15 giftcard. What they didn't say there, that they posted on the Community, is that the giftcard is only good that weekend and can be spent on the additional items that they're going to surprise us with or at the Amy's Hallmark in Crown Center.

They obviously don't think it's appropriate to tell us how much the surprises will cost, how big they will be, or how much they weigh. The last two points are important if you're flying since you may be forced into shipping something that you didn't plan to ship.

Frosty Fun Decade Repaint will be given as you enter the Winter Wonderland buffet dinner Friday evening.

Remember the Magic KOC 2019 Convention Snowflake will be given as you enter the Magic of Christmas dinner Saturday evening.

I HATE that EVERYONE thinks WE ALL have smart phones.

So what if you don't have one Hallmark:

A convention event app for your smartphone will be available to all attendees. We highly encourage all attendees to download and use the app for easy access to personalized schedules, convention information, a scavenger hunt game and more. To use the app, you will need to make sure you have a unique email. Don't have your own email?

I have a smartphone but I don't like to have a lot of apps on it especially if you are only using it for one weekend.

I really don't like this idea. What if someone wants to leave early or they were only going to be there for two days. I and I think others thought those three ornaments would be in our bags or registration packets.

I don't have a smart phone either. I don't think it is Hallmark doing this, it is Cvent, the people putting this on. I am really dreading this event as from the start it has been nothing but problems.

I like the idea of a smartphone app during the event myself. I have been to several conferences for my job, and there is usually some type of app.

I was going to use the Remember the Magic KOC 2019 Convention Snowflake as one of my ornaments to get signed but Terri S.
I just don't know what Hallmark is thinking. Those 3 ornaments should have be in our event bag.
IF they want to give out something for dinner...then they should find something else.

We need more information to make plans.

It's coming up fast and we still don't know anything about the local club dinner/ get together.

No local club dinner info.

But we can BUY a Kansas City Train ornament early for $19.99..
I haven't looked to see if it the same as in the dream book.

Not really anything I would purchase anyway.

This isn't in the Dream Book. It appeared on Hallmark.com one day and that's how we found out about it. I'm debating if I want to buy it then so I can have Orville sign it (and I'll take my silver pen so he can since I expect to find it has a black bottom) or if I want to buy it from my local club sponsor's store when it comes out in October.

One thing that I like about it is that it has the shapes of some of the Plaza buildings, including lights, on the engine section. It's kind of hard to see in the picture the event people sent out but you can see it better on Hallmark.com. But if you've never been to the Plaza it doesn't mean as much.

You are correct. I don't know what the country club plaza is...

maybe this link will work to see the locomotive:

The Country Club Plaza is one of the oldest shopping districts in the country. The buildings are done in Moorish architecture, paying tribute to Kansas City, MO's sister city Seville, Spain. One of the buildings has a scale model of the tower of Seville on it. Every year they have the buildings outlined in lights, with the lights coming on for the first time in the season on Thanksgiving night and staying on until mid-January. Some of the Plaza buildings were included on the Christmas in KC ornament that came out a couple of years ago.

I am wondering how the smart phone app will work when my husband and I share one iphone? Will we be able to see both of our schedules, etc.? I think we used the same email for both of us to register for the event.

I, too, posted on Keepsake Community regarding the handing out of the ornaments following dinners. This is a very bad idea. As stated, not everyone will be going to all the events. When we registered, these ornaments were listed as part of our registration package. Many of us who fly use event ornaments for the Artists to sign so we have less things to carry. Receiving the ornaments so late in the event won't allow us to have these event ornaments signed. I think Hallmark hasn't thought this through. I encourage everyone to contact Hallmark - call, post on Keepsake Community, post on Facebook, write - to object to this plan. I hope they will listen to us. Maybe if they hear from enough of us they will change their minds. I'm sure they want us to have a positive Convention experience.

I'd also planned to have an ornament signed that I thought would be in the registration bag -- "Remember the Magic" Snowflake -- so am disappointed to learn I won't get it until afterwards. Guess I'll just have to pack another ornament and take the Snowflake to a future signing event! Hopefully Hallmark comes to its senses soon and stops making these sort of changes to previously announced convention information...
