Does an artist's signature add value to an ornament? Does it depend on the artist (retired vs active) or maybe the series? I appreciate your opinions. Thanks!

From what I've seen the signature does add a little value.

Only if it is a popular ornament or series.

Some people do not like the signing pieces signed. They think it looks messy.

I get a lot of ornaments signed but it is to meet and talk to the artists.

When I say a lot..I have over 1,500 signatures.

I have over 1500 of my 1700 ornaments signed. I have nothing by Ed Seale signed, though.

Ed used to come to the Flamingo Fling ornament show and sale in Tampa every year.

He was always great fun to talk to.

I think that if the artist is no longer signing, as in the case of Ed Seale, the signature may make a difference. The same would be true for an artist who has passed away, like Donna Lee or Steve Goslin.

Beaglebabes, sorry that you never got to have Ed Seale sign any of your ornaments. He is such a nice man and really loves talking to the collectors. Well, guess most of them love talking to us. LOL! I've had quite a few signed by him.

I think the value is the memory of going to what ever place and getting the ornament signed.

There are many retired artist that will never sign again. I'm thinking Duane Unruh, Ledene Votruba,
and John Francis "Collin"- You could probably add Linda Sickman too.

Then you have artists that left early like Julia Lee, Cullen Brown, Rich Lapierre, and Chris Webb. I know I'm forgetting some.

deceased Donna Lee, Mary Hamilton, and Steve Goslin.

For the 40th anniversary event, I suggested they bring back all their former artists but they did Wizard of Oz. I said it is not the WOZ 40th but Hallmarks. I hope for the 50th some of the artists would be able to come back. That is about four years out.

Sue, Julia Lee is gone and Duane Unruh has Parkinson's disease and can't sign his name anymore.
