Just got word from my ISP that they are moving to new servers with new operating system software that will not work with the version of UBB bulletin board that I use.

I've been dragging my feet on upgrading the boards, because they are so stable, and lots of people don't like change!

I'm hoping to find a way to retain as much board history, and user information as possible.

They have given me until the end of Jan. to make the change. I'm going to ask for an extension to March as Dec. and Jan. are so busy on the boards.

Anyway, I wanted recommendations on similar bulletin board or forum sites that you like, so I can look at alternative software.

Thanks!

Todd Ray

I belong to another forum online (non-Hallmark), and they use Invision Power Board. I think the format's really nice on Invision.

vBulletin Version 3.5.3 seems really stable. Good luck, Todd!

I've been on boards running Invision and also VBulletin v3.0.8 and v3.6.5 (sample site: BetaOne ), both run fine.

When I was testing forums the Invision was very user friendly on both the public side and the administrator side.

Todd, good luck in your search! As you well know, I'm no help when it comes to computer stuff, but one of the best features of YuleLog (IMO) is the stability and speed. Other forums I visit seem so clunky and complicated compared to YuleLog. Plus, I'm sure many others join me in hoping for as much history as posible to come along with us.

I'm trying to decide between Invision Power Board (if they tell me that can convert my data) and the UBB-Threads product (who have assured me they can convert my data).

Can anyone list some links here, to boards you like that use either of these products?

What features do you especially like?

Todd

I just hope that whichever you decide to use is as easy to navigate as the present Yulelog. I am not computer savey AT ALL.
Merry Christmas to ALL YULELOGGERS.

Hey Todd

Here are links to my two other favorite boards.

http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/index.php?

and they use

Powered by: vBulletin Version 3.0.7

and I like that you can see who else is "on" when you are "on". I like that you can see how many times a thread has been read. I like you can see who last posted on the thread in addition to who started the thread. AND I like the polls features which can be a really fun thing for both off topic subjects or on topic subjects.

and the other

http://www.disboards.com/index.php?s=

Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.5

and I like it pretty much for the same features as the previous one I listed~!

Deana

One bit of advice if I may - reverse the order of posts in a thread. Most boards have the first post to start a thread at the top. That makes it much easier to read and find out what the topic is about. Scrolling down to the original is a bit of a pain...

Thanks for even having these boards! Good luck on the upgrade.

I like that the newest thread is at the top. That way I don't have to scroll all the way down to get to the threads I haven't read yet.

I also like how this board is uncluttered. Though I don't spend much time on other boards, some seem very cluttered.

I hope you can stay as close as possible to what you have here, Todd. Sorry you have to go through all this. Thanks for all you do and Merry Christmas.

Stacey

Notice something different?

This is a temporary change in route to the new YuleLog Bulletin Boards. We had to make this intermediate change before moving to a new server and the latest version of UBB Threads.

Don't get too used to this, as the final version will look even more different!

Hi Todd,
I'm a little confused by something I read, when I hit the "Directory" page link. There are various listings, but the one in question is the one called "Member of the Moment".

It says the member's Interests are "Porn", it's Occupation is "Porn" and it's location is "Porn".

Does this mean there's some sort of connection between this new board and a porn site?

Try clicking it again. Weird. This is what I got when I clicked on the Directory link. I don't recognize the "new" members but then that is probably because they are new and the rest seems all normal to me. Deana

There are spam robots out there registering to use every board they can find. Since YuleLog now requires you to enter a valid eMail address to register and use the board, lots of fake registrations occur, but never get used because spammers don't give valid eMail addresses.

Apparently the Member of the Moment is random and you saw one registered by a spammer...

Thanks for the replies. That's pretty weird! Hopefully, this won't present any problems later.

Spam Robots?? Wow, you'd think people would find a much better way to spend their time!

I've turned off the Member of the Moment feature. It is random and I don't like that it shows those spam registered folks...
