What is new with YuleLog
2011?
- Now on DVD
- With over 9000 photos, the files are now too large to fit
on a CD. Your computer must have a DVD drive in order to install YuleLog 2011
- This allows one DVD to include both the Mac and Windows
versions, so no chance of getting the wrong version!
- Because of this and due to higher postal rates and
more shipping damage forcing me to use more expensive packaging, the shipping price is now $3 for updates.
- Secondary Market Prices come from only one
source now.
- I have chosen one of the largest and best known Secondary
Market Dealers as the only source of prices for YuleLog.
- HookedOnOrnaments.com which is owned and operated by Nicki
Pierce was my choice. I have worked with Nicki for many years
and admire her web site, knowledge, and the data she has
available. No offense to the many other dealers out there who I
have worked with over the years, but due to the professional
relationship that I have with Nicki, this just made the most
sense for me.
- YuleLog originally started with all of this information
coming from one source (remember the Collection Connection?) so
this is a change back to what I used to do.
- The primary reason for this change was because of the huge
amount of time it took to gather information from multiple web
sites and dealers. They all use different formats for their
data and it takes a lot of work to get it configured correctly.
I had my sons to help with a lot of this, but they are both off
at college now and they dont have time to help me. Also,
I was discovering that a lot of the data was not valid. Some of
the web sites were not ever updated and the prices would vary
considerably site to site. I feel that one large, popular
Secondary Market Dealers prices are more useful than the
widely varying prices I was getting. As Ive explained to
many people, over the years, the prices in YuleLog are mostly
useful to determine what you would expect to pay for ornaments
(not counting lucky auctions or yard sale finds) if you were to
one stop shop for them. You cant expect to sell for those
prices most of the time.
- The screens and reports in YuleLog 2011 have been
reformatted to reflect a single Secondary Market Price, instead
of the low, median, and average prices. This is more typical of
what you would have seen in the printed Price Guide books that
used to be available.
- YuleLog is not compatible with Mac OS X
10.7 Lion.
- It will require a significant rewrite of the program to
work with this new Macintosh OS.
- I am not sure when or if I will be able to make this
happen. I have less time to spend with YuleLog than I once did,
and Im not sure what the future holds.
